Welcome to the 14th episode of FloInsider – a podcast for photographers and creative business owners who seek inspiration and a fresh perspective on how to run their business, navigate this weird time that we all live in, and find meaning and happiness in their daily routines.
Have you ever taken a personality test? Did you find that helpful or restrictive? In today’s episode we are talking to the delightful Ellie McKinney, a wedding photographer and educator from North Carolina. Ellie implements the Enneagram personality test into her coaching for photographers and of course, into her own business and life.
Knowing your Enneagram number doesn’t have to be a tight box that you have to adhere to: instead it can be a tool you can use to better understand yourself, how your clients perceive you and what’s the best workflow for your business.
She shares a lot of valuable insight about leveraging your enneagram number to run a better, more efficient business. Ellie also speaks very openly about the sides of her business she hasn’t mastered yet, and the things she’s still working on.
Tune in, enjoy and share this episode with someone who will also find it valuable!
A few cliff notes from our chat with Ellie McKinney:
- What does it mean to show up as your authentic self in business? Does it mean you have to bare your soul in front of your clients? Often we think that building that connection is all about shared interests and being very personal in order to be ‘real’. Ellie tells us what it means for her – connecting over shared values instead of connecting over hobbies.
- when you have your business values figured out, you always have something to speak from and you never run out of content or inspiration. You don’t have to squeeze something ‘authentic’ out of your brain to connect with your audience. You can simply speak about what you value and believe in and how that flows into the work you do.
- Enneagram tests don’t exist to put you in a box. Instead use them as a tool to help you build a successful business. When you know your strengths and weaknesses you can put systems in place that help balance those out. This will make you and your clients happier.
This conversation is not only energized and fun – it’s also full of valuable insight into an honest way of running a business. Enjoy it on your run, while driving or making breakfast, you will love listening to Ellie.
