Welcome to the 16th episode of FloInsider – a podcast for photographers and creative business owners who seek inspiration and a fresh perspective on how to run their business, navigate this weird time that we all live in, and find meaning and happiness in their daily routines.
Today’s episode is all about Branding! Trust us, you will want to tune into this one!
Our guest is Xanthe Appleyard, the co-founder and Creative Director of Oh Sierra, a brand agency that focuses on helping business owners find a better, more authentic, and meaningful way to connect to their audience.
Finding and developing your brand identity can be a lot of fun, but it’s also a really complex endeavor! We often think that getting a cute logo, some fonts, and colors is all it takes to establish a strong brand. When in reality, there’s so much more thought and depth that goes into developing a brand. Xanthe explains why it’s so important to get into the details of how your brand shows up online.
We also talk about the risk of changing lanes, re-branding, and how to make sure that your clients follow you on that new journey!
Get ready to dive into an episode jam-packed with insights and priceless tips!
A few cliff notes from our chat with Xanthe from Oh Sierra:
- Branding is more than beautiful colours and fancy fonts: Branding is the way your business interacts with the world. From your brand story to every line of communication to the visuals and your values and behavior.
- It is possible to grow, change, re-brand, and take your audience on this journey with you. The key to this is transparency and a step by step approach.
- As creatives, there is this narrative that your brand needs to have your own personality. The personality of the founder behind it. However, that doesn’t have to be the case. Your Brand doesn’t have to be you – as long as it has a personality. This can also be a client’s personality for example.
- Connect over values, not just lifestyle or hobbies: When you connect with potential clients over shared values it transcends barriers of location, titles, and lifestyle and you can reach a diverse range of people. This makes the marketing landscape more fun!
