Today we are releasing Osaka v. 0.7, and there are 2 major reasons to be head over heels about this update, both offering you more flexibility and possibilities to get creative with your website pages. Let’s dive straight into more details about the updates:
20+New Page Blocks
There’s no such thing as too many, right? While we highly recommend and encourage you to experiment and tweak each page block, creating new purposes and structures for them, our ultimate goal is to simplify and make the process of building a website with Osaka – as easy and fast as possible. After updating to Osaka v. 0.7 you’ll be overjoyed to discover blocks for Testimonials, FAQ, Featured Links, Featured Images, Newsletter Signup, Video, Buttons (CTAs), Image + Text, Instagram, Columns for text or links, Title blocks and many more. You can see examples of the new available blocks on this page.
Want to see them in action? Of course you do. Here are a few page layouts built using these blocks, to give you a better idea about their application – Home B, Home C, About C. Questions? Let us know in the comments below.
New Page Templates, More Flexibility & Backend Improvements
New blocks obviously require new possibilities to use and tweak them, that’s why we’re introducing new Page Templates for Osaka. Basically, before this update you’d choose one of the predefined page layouts (from your right side bar) and customize it with your own content. After updating to Osaka v. 0.7, you’ll get new page templates that are much more flexible, built out of page blocks which you can reorder by drag and dropping them, remove or add new ones. Everything is customizable, and can be included or hidden from your mobile site. Watch the following two videos for a better understanding:
Excited? So are we!
Basically, the new Default Template from your dashboard allows you to create new page layouts with a larger variety of blocks (old and new).
The IMPORTANT PART: if you want to customize and add these new blocks to your existing pages (built with Home, About, Contact or Listing templates before this update) – you will need to reconstruct that page with the Default Template. If the old page was built with the Default template, go ahead and extend it with the new blocks.
However, if your current pages work well and don’t need any changes or additional blocks added – there is NO NEED to re-create them. Leave them as they are.
While this sounds like a tedious process, trust us – it’s NOT. You have all the content on point, and just need to copy paste it into the new page template, while being offered the ability to add, remove, reorder page blocks and tweak EVERYTHING. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to do it. Remember, always backup and use the Flolaunch plugin while testing and experimenting with your website, to ensure a smooth user experience for your site visitors, avoid errors or downtime.
We hope you enjoy the changes and updates to your Osaka theme, and start testing and tweaking these new possibilities right away.
